Forum: etree Subject: Bug in search box for "all media types"?

Just a quick note ... from the main LMA page, if you use the default search box at the top of the screen, if you search for any artist name, you get the predicted search results of all instances of that artist name. e.g.:

Ryan Adams
http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=ryan%20adams%20AND%20mediatype%3Aetree%20AND%20collection%3Aetree

The same if you put in a taper's name, it will bring up all instances of their name, mostly in the 'taper' field:

http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=tyler%20huff%20AND%20mediatype%3Aetree%20AND%20collection%3Aetree

but if you put in an e-mail address, such as when you are looking for all recordings by a certain taper ... by putting their e-mail address, you are taken to the Wayback Machine (in the 'Web' portion of archive.org) and shown something like this:

http://web.archive.org/web/*/LJsurfer2002@yahoo.com

regardless if the pulldown menu has 'All Media Types' selected or just 'Live Music Archive'. Is it possible to have it route to search the actual collections for that e-mail address? I guess you can make it work by chopping off the @ sign and beyond, and it will match the beggining of the e-mail address (hopefully some-what unique) to it's instances in the LMA ... just noticed it wanted to bring it up.

The workaorund I use is the Firefox search engine plugin for archive.org (Tahir Azhar's). That will pass email address queries correctly.

You can also work around the problem by putting quote marks (") around the search term. But the Firefox IA search plugin is indeed a very handy thing to have; I use it all the time.

(smacks forehead) That works for emails! Parentheses instead of quotes will work too.
